For my next piece I have decided to do a large scale painting of St Mary's church bricks. First of all I measured and drew out the brick layers onto my canvas. Here are some pictures of my process:
I like the fact that I added dimension to this painting by using white and brown paint to create brush strokes in the middle of the bricks. I wanted to depict the pattern of old church brick buildings. Most of them are uneven in shape and colour due to their longevity. The process of painting a brick wall fits in with the idea of structure. I simply wanted to show the fact that the most grand buildings we see start off with bricks and cement to then become functional buildings that we can go inside of. On the other hand, I would also like to maybe experiment with brick paintings further by adding other mediums like plaster or tissue paper to create more texture on the bricks.
