i did some sketches of the St Mary's church and a college building in the town of Ilkeston. In order to do my drawing of the college building, i had to do it in one point perspective. In order to achieve drawings in one point perspective, you have to draw a horizon line which is the eye level that the person is looking at the photo. You then have to draw the shapes away from the horizon line in order to get the 3D effect. This technique was kind of difficult to grasp at first, but once i started to draw out the basic shapes, i ended up getting the hand of it. Here are a few pictures of my process:
here are the photo references for this drawing:
after looking back on the photo i took when i got home decided that i wanted a wider shot so i looked up some images of the college on google and used that for my reference photo. in conclusion, i was happy with how my drawing turned out. going over it in fine liner made the image pop and look more graphic. of course, i do think some of the proportions of the picture do need some work, but with practice that will improve.
here is also the result of my church sketch unfortunately, i didn't capture the process of this. I achieved this drawing by tracing the outline of the church, then transferring the image into m sketchbook and going over it in fine liner.
Im also thinking to put these sketches into frames to make it more presentable. I am pleased with how my sketches turned out, especially the first one. The college building was one of the first contemporary buildings in Ilkeston that i have seen, adding the fine liner around the pencil gives the drawing a modern feel to it.
