I made a few ceramic pieces from the some of the historical structures and buildings of Ilkeston. The first one I made was the Stanton iron works, here are few pictures of the process:

Firstly I wrapped the clay around the paintbrush in order to mold the clay into a cylinder shape. I also created a rectangular platform for it so that the cylinder shapes could be supported. Furthermore, it was actually supposed to replicate the ground. After I had done this, I used the bottom of a glue stick to create the top of the tower. This how the towers looked before they got fired:
I believe my towers looked okay, but I am condfident that this could be done again with improvement. To improve my work next time, I might wrap the clay around around a different shape in order to make the towers more narrow at the top.
here are the ceramic towers glazed:
I love the way the glaze on my towers looked, it made it look like steel and metallic. It is suppose to represent the structure of Stanton ironworks and I believe that the metallic glaze does a good job of representing the exterior of it. I couldn't find a cIear picture of the towers so I just structured them how I thought they would look. think these towers look very industrial like which was the design that I was going when I glazed them. If I was to do this again I would have removed the bottom platform and done them as separate towers so that they could stand by themselves. As I don't think the bottom platform really adds anything to the the piece artistically.
