This piece of artwork is by a Ghanian sculptor called El Anatsui, he uses everyday and recycled materials to make his installations. One of the reasons why I like this particular piece is because of the textures that is used within the work. In this artwork, we can see textures that almost look like they are dripping there also seems to be tiny colourful specs of objects that are present which resemble sparkles. Another thing to note, is the colours that he uses for this piece they almost look muddy which could suggest elements of nature. Anatsui has made this piece using aluminium, liquor bottle tops and copper wire. I like the fact that he has used recycled materials for his art work as it suggests that he is aware of sustainability. Furthermore, I think the idea of sustainability could tie into the meaning of his Anatsui work. Using recycled materials to make artwork is a statement within it self, it indicates that recycled items can be reused to make works of art. And most importantly can prevent unnecessary harm to the environment. has inspired me to use textures within my own work, as I have added wall filler to my brick wall painting which has given it a realistic look. Although, Anatsui's work is a sculpture and not a painting, the textures in his work really help to this installation to life.
